Calendarium: purpose, scope, and policies

Preliminary version

The purpose of the calendarium is to provide up-to-date information about researchers, research groups, and current events in the area of Spatial and Temporal Reasoning. Initially, the calendarium is restricted to the sub-area of Reasoning about Actions and Change.

We hope to maintain a complete coverage of research and research events in Europe, and a reasonable coverage of research and research events "internationally".

Researchers in the topic area who wish their names and/or their research groups to be included in the calendarium are cordially invited to send an E-mail message with this request. Contributions to the other types of calendarium information are also welcomed.

A simple database system has been developed for organizing the calendarium information as well as the bibliographic review structure (BRS). Many of the calendarium pages are therefore generated automatically from the database, rather than edited by hand. This is intended to make the database more consistent, user-friendly, and maintainer-friendly.

We do not expect any conflicts with respect to personal integrity for this database (either in data-structure form or in HTML form), but just in case, the following simple policies will be observed:

Each entity in the database (including persons listed there) is assigned a unique identifier which is used for links between objects. In the case of persons, the last name is used as identifer unless this leads to an ambiguity or a spelling problem with "national" characters.
